Young Adult Fiction from the 1980s

We did not add new books to our collection this week. Why don’t we look at some of the books that were published in the decade I was born? Let’s celebrate the 1980’s. Some of the covers (and technology) may be dated but you may still connect with the characters in these books.

The Baby-Sitters Club series by Ann M. Martin debuted in the 1986. It follows a group of friends that start a babysitting business and their adventures.

Caroline B. Cooney may be best known as the author of The Face on the Milk Carton but she has so many titles to her name. These three were published in 1980s. Saturday Night  and Summer Nights  are romances featuring high school students planning and attending a dance. Among Friends is a book of revealing journal entries three friends and a “supercouple.”

Lurlene McDaniel writes books that will probably make you cry. Too Young To Die  (published in 1988) is the story of sixteen-year-old Melissa who receives a tragic diagnosis on the brink of her junior year of high school.

The legendary Redwall series by Brian Jacques was published in 1986. This epic tale spans different time periods in the world of Redwall. If you are interested in the tales with non-human main characters and very descriptive text, this series may be for you.
